The other area smaller tribs have medium flows and slightly stained water color. The Fall LOC Derby is in its final stretch this week, ending Sept. 5th. So conditions real nice, especially considering how dry summer was and how some of this fall has been so far. Plenty of water cover in the Oak for a few fresh brown trout or getting toward more post spawn fish. There were some hook ups thru the past weekend right before this latest rise in flows. Flow conditions right now are more like nice steelhead water and higher then typical fall flows. At least whatever trib and near shore Lake Ontario trout action that is underway is not likely to experience a temp spike anytime soon. With the previous high and off color flows in the Oak its been a bit of a challenge for good drifts and swings. King salmon with browns inside of 100 kings and steelhead out to 500 the bite is good. Slightly lower flows will likely reveal more browns then thought when the water was higher. Biggest brown trout so far is a 16-pound, 12-ounce fish out of Point Breeze, weighed in by Gary Cregan of Rochester. Since 1/4 inch of rain did not do much it looks like 1/2 inch or more of rain in a storm or otherwise would be needed to effect any positive change in flows. Also to note is the Ridge Road/Route 104 bridge over the Oak Orchard Creek in the town of Ridgeway is now open to travelers. Shouldnt be any serious icing in yet but there could be some bank ice or chunky flows. This area will be on the far end of it. Action reported pretty good around the Archers Club yesterday and then slower today. Everything is wide open to fish and its going to take a cold snap to get things iced back up again. Theres a chance of snow showers tomorrow (Wed.) and precipitation at the end of week again. Even at this almost mid-Oct timeframe, theres still good hookup chances from the nearshore Lake Ontario all the way to the dam, so the fishing opportunity definitely will spread out. Salmon will likely be found from the estuary up through town. Kings have for the most part given up the ghost and now some carcasses are seen seeding the waterway. They fished way off shore on the Pirate Queen with Captain Tom Wolfe. On the Oak there should be the chance for fresh chrome action esp when the flows are agreeable like now or on the backside of any future high water. Civilian small boat trollers reported to be having good brown trout action so that tells me the land lubber casting chances should be good too. We encourage you to do the same with Brookfield, NYSDEC and/or Orleans County Tourism. The LOC started Friday and runs until September 6thLabor Day. We have also been catching fish from 25-70 down. No doubt well have concentrations of Kings into November. Real low, low, mod, mod to med, med, slightly high, slightly high to high, high, real high, blown. Fishing pressure is real light with one or two guys reporting a few fresher looking steelhead hooked up. Theres a change afoot soon with the forecast ahead for the end of week and weekend going colder with a chance of mixed bag precipitation.
